The decline in Australian export is a reality check for the Australian government that it is not doing justice to its citizens by being too gung-ho and pig-head with its approach in dealing with China, in particular during the last few months.
According to the report that "China’s purchases of Australian goods plunge 26.2 per cent from a year earlier, even as exports to Australia jumped 24.4 per cent," It continues to say that "China’s trade deficit with Australia narrowed by 48.1 per cent year on year in August to just US$4.3 billion in August."
Scott Morrison is not refined enough to handle international diplomacy. Despite his successful “100% Pure New Zealand” campaign", he failed miserably with the infamous ‘Where the bloody hell are ya’ Australian tourism ad. Its tacky taglines resulted in the ad being banned in both the UK and Canada due to the use of "bloody".
Scotty from Marketing is definitely no marketer at all, because a good marketer understands that it costs 10 times more to find a new customer than to keep a good existing one.
While I am no fan of Daniel Andrews due to his mishandling of the hotel quarantine, and protecting those who deserved to be stood down without pay or sacked from the senior position, he remained calm during daily press update. He takes on all the blame, and says nothing bad about other state premiers and the PM.
It will take many more years for Australia to restart some manufacturing businesses, to produce goods to satisfy our local demand without relying on imports. However, it is not sustainable if what we produce cannot sell to other countries, which means lack of economy of scale in manufacturing or production, the costs will be much higher than what the consumers are prepared to pay.
Australians may not buy from China directly, but most online suppliers disguise themselves as from channels other than China, or in other words, Australians pay more through another party or multiple parties.
